A small assembly of two musicians, consisting of an ‘oud player and a tambourine player, perform for a couple outside their chamber. The ‘oud is a stringed instrument with a pear-shaped body and short neck which is played and adapted in a variety of styles and names throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia.

The bordering poem on this folio was not originally related to the painting and probably arranged at a later date. The text is from an ode (ghazal) attributed to the 14th-century Persian poet Hafiz.
